Jane Campion is one of the most applauded and dynamic filmmakers to emerge from Australasia. (She was born in New Zealand and resides in Australia). Her depiction of strong (usually female) lead characters rebelling against stereotypical roles has attracted singular praise, as have her story telling techniques: original and striking visual compositions, non-linear editing style and moments of narrative ambiguity.
Campion’s settler saga The Piano, is listed in the US National Society of Film Critics’ list of ‘100 Essential Films’ of all time, alongside Citizen Kane, The Godfather and Casablanca.
We are taking a look at her critically acclaimed and richly awarded film: “The Piano”!
